Breakthrough Workshop:
Building Positive Body Image
and Self-Esteem for Athletes
(NOTE: this is not therapy or counseling)

Target Audience:
-
High school (16 y/o and up), college and post-college athletes struggling with body image concerns, low self-esteem, or performance pressures.

Athletes who wish to develop healthier relationships with their bodies, focusing on both body image and self-worth.
Group Goals:
-
To help athletes challenge harmful body image beliefs and focus on their bodies' strengths and performance capabilities.

To foster self-compassion, self-acceptance, and a positive sense of self-worth.

To educate athletes on the impact of body image and self-esteem on mental health, athletic performance, and overall well-being.

To provide a space for athletes to share experiences, challenges, and victories, and receive support from others.

To equip athletes with tools to develop resilience in managing body image pressures and building lasting self-esteem.
​Group Structure and Logistics:

Duration: 6 meetings, 1 hour per session.

Mode: Virtually.
-
Size: 10 participants for an intimate and manageable group.

Facilitator: Led by a Licensed Social Worker Associate Independent Clinical with expertise in disordered eating, body image, and self-esteem.

Group Ground Rules:
-
Confidentiality: What is shared in the group stays in the group.

Respect: Respect each other’s experiences, struggles, and victories.

Non-judgmental: Avoid offering unsolicited advice or judgment about others’ experiences.

Active Listening: Supportive, empathetic listening is encouraged, as it strengthens the group dynamic.

Participation: Participation is encouraged but not mandatory. Each member should feel comfortable sharing as much as they are ready to.
